Gatekeepers are essential in the natural realm and even more critical in the spiritual realm, for the spiritual realm is the causal realm. A gatekeeper protects or guards an area from unwanted or unlawful entry so that it is safe and productive. For example, a receptionist is a gatekeeper that protects her boss from interruptions, and a security guard protects premises from disturbances or robberies.

Some of the gates the believer is called to guard through prayer, prophecy, giving, and strategic action include yourself, your family, the body of Christ, leaders, your city and state, nations, governments, and the world. God has appointed every believer to be gatekeeper over their spheres of influence on the earth, according to Genesis 1:26-28, Psalm 8:4-6, and Psalm 115:15-16:

“And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the birds of the air and over the cattle and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps upon the earth. And God blessed them and God said unto them, Be fruitful and multiply and replenish the earth and subdue it and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the fowl of the air and over every living thing that moves upon the earth. Gen. 1:26-28

“What is man that thou art mindful of him: and the son of man that thou visit him? For thou have made him a little lower than Elohim and hast crowned him with glory and honor. Thou made him to have dominion over the works of your hands, thou hast put all things under his feet.” Psa. 8:4-6

“Ye are blessed of the Lord which made heaven and earth. The heaven, even the heavens, are the Lord’s, but the earth has he given to the children of men.” Psa. 115-15-16

From these verses, it is evident the Lord is confident in His Church’s ability to serve as a gatekeeper, advancing His kingdom.

What are ways to cover your gates? There are many, including daily praying your natural and spiritual language (tongues), fasting and prayer, making daily confessions, prophesying, intercessory prayer, and through financial giving to help ministries and others spread the gospel of the kingdom of God to save and disciple nations and set captives free.

To be an effective gatekeeper, you must relentlessly exercise your authority on earth, given in Jesus’ name. Continue to study, meditate, read, and decree God’s word daily to increase your faith. This way, you stay ready to stop the enemy from infiltrating your territory.

To be an effective gatekeeper, you must effectively keep on the whole armor of God to rout the enemy, including using the following weapons as Holy Spirit leads you: truth (Luke 10:19, Matt. 16:19, Eph. 6:11-18), prayers of all kinds (Eph. 6:18, Isa. 59:16), spiritual warfare (II Cor. 10:3-5), fasting and prayer, the dynamic duo (Matt. 17:21), the blood of Jesus (Col. 1:14), the name of Jesus(John 16:23), the sword of the Spirit(Eph. 6:17-18), faith (Mark 11:22-25), praise and thanksgiving (Psa. 100:4), dancing (Psa. 149:3), marching and stomping ( Josh. chapter 6), clapping (Psa. 144:2), the anointing, both prophetic and apostolic (Is. 10:27), touching and agreeing (Matt. 18:19-20), prayer and giving(Acts 10:1-4), prophetic utterances with dancing (Joel 2:28), binding and loosing(Matt. 18:18), tongues (Jude 1:20 and Rom. 8:26-27), anointing with oil(James 5:14), and testimonies (Rev. 12:11).

Above all, walk in God’s love and by the spirit, crucifying your flesh. Also, physically take care of your body, which is the temple of God, so Holy Spirit can intercede through you to manifest heaven on earth.

Finally, to be an effective gatekeeper, you must possess spiritual discernment so you do not quit when the battle gets tough and know the right strategies to execute to keep the enemy under your feet and outside your territories. Be vigilant for your adversary as a roaring lion walks around seeking whom he may devour (I Pet. 5:8). If you consistently practice these spiritual disciplines and keep on your spiritual armor in Christ Jesus, the enemy will flee from you.
