Let’s talk about your health.

Did you know that many people don’t even know they are overweight or obese?

According to the World Health Organization, overweight and obesity are among the leading causes of disability and death in the European Region of the World Health Organization. According to recent estimates, there are more than 1.2 million deaths across the region each year. Some of the common conditions associated with being overweight and obese include heart disease, high blood pressure, arthritis, some cancers, and diabetes.

Ephraim O Amadi, a medical laboratory specialist, said obesity can occur at any age, even in children. But as you age, hormonal changes and a poor lifestyle can increase the risk of obesity, as muscle mass declines with age. Low muscle mass means lower metabolism, and at this point, a healthy lifestyle should be inculcated because you don’t want the calories setting in and you becoming obese.

Here is where we get to the main point. The BMI, which is an acronym meaning Body Mass Index. It’s often used to easily detect obesity.

BMI is a value derived from a person’s weight in kilograms divided by height (squared) in centimeters. The recommended levels were adapted from the WHO’s international recommendation of 18.5 to 24.9 as a normal BMI for adults 20 and above, while 25.0 – to 29.9 corresponds to pre-existing disease and range from 30.0 to 34.9 to over 40.

Surprised, right?  Let’s talk about what we can do to reduce the number of cases and prevent them.

Firstly, take your BMI assessment to find out how you are doing.

Secondly, eat a variety of healthy, balanced, and nutritious foods that include whole grains (unprocessed wheat, rye, barley, wheat, and brown rice), nuts, fruits, and vegetables, fresh and local.  Fruits and vegetables cannot be overstated because they contain many nutrients that our bodies need every day. They help to detoxify, build, and repair our bodies. You can’t go wrong with fruits and vegetables. They also help to keep the skin fresh and healthy.

Vitamins and minerals in food are important for promoting immunity and healthy growth. Also, eat a healthy diet based on a variety of foods that come from plants rather than animals. Control the consumption of fat, sugar, and salt. Replace fatty meats and meat products with beans, legumes, fish, chicken, or lean meat. The unsaturated fats found in fish, avocados, nuts sunflower, soybeans, canola, and olive oils are better than the saturated fats found in fatty foods, butter, palm, and coconut oil. , cream, cheese, and trans fats of all kinds, including industrial products. Intelligent management of your diet will help you control your body weight and maintain your health.

Thirdly, don’t take exercise lightly because it has so many benefits. Exercise helps with a healthy diet. They always go together. Physical activities such as walking, swimming, dancing, cycling, jogging, etc. are very beneficial to make us clear and ready for the day and also help to reduce the risk of diabetes, heart disease, and osteoporosis. It is also important for weight management and general health.

Fourthly, reducing television time, screen time and other leisure time can help people engage in activities that improve their health.

Lastly, it is recommended to drink water instead of soft drinks and sugary drinks.
