When You Don’t Feel God
Sometimes, we get overwhelmed by life’s activities and it seems like we are bearing the weight of the whole world on our shoulders that we can’t keep up with our relationship with God. We lose track of when last we communicated with God, studied God’s word, and took out time to pray and hear from Him.
In these times, your spiritual battery seems to be running low, you feel so empty and you can’t hear God anymore. You try to put fire on your altar again but fail to keep it burning.
I would like you to know that you are not alone and it is just a feeling. You can’t feel God doesn’t mean He can’t see you. He sees and understands how you feel. Good thing about this is you have a friend in Jesus and He won’t rush you to “unfeel” what you feel at the moment. He gives you room to feel how you feel.
Even if all you can do is sit and cry. God understands.
“Now that we know what we have—Jesus, this great High Priest with ready access to God—let’s not let it slip through our fingers. We don’t have a priest who is out of touch with our reality. He’s been through weakness and testing, experienced it all…” Hebrews 4:14-15 MSG.
You have a great high priest who felt everything that you feel at the moment. A high priest who is not out of touch with your reality. He was fully God and man and he felt alone and overwhelmed. He totally understands how you feel.
I have outlined a few steps that can help you feel God again:
- Talk to God and let Him know how and what you feel. God is a loving father and He listens.
- Rest in God’s love for you. Sit and stay in His love. Remind yourself that the fact you can’t feel God doesn’t mean He has left you. You are deeply loved by God and He cannot unlove you.
- Deliberately meditate on God’s word. This may not be easy because you have stayed away for some time but pick any scripture at all and just brood over it. Fix your heart on God’s promises for you. Remember your feelings are fickle but God’s word is stronger than your feelings and emotions.
- Listen to songs sand sermons that remind you of who and whose you are.
Remember that you are loved. God’s heart is big enough to contain you.
You are not alone
